Itinerary
August 5, 2001. Arrival in Scotland.
On Sunday, I arrived at Glasgow International Airport and took a brief tour of Glasgow, including Glasgow Cathedral. I then went to my hotel on the shores of Loch Lomond.
August 6, 2001. The Lochs of Scotland.
Monday, I took a trip from Loch Lomond into the Trossachs. On this trip, we visited Lochs Achray and Katrine. That afternoon, I took a cruise on Loch Lomond. The evening activities included a tour of Glengoyne Distillery.
August 7, 2001. The Road to Inverness.
Tuesday, I traveled north through the Scottish Highlands to Inverness. Highlights along the way included Glen Coe, the sight of an infamous massacre; the Commando Memorial; the ruins of Urquhart Castle; and the Caledonian Canal through the town of Fort Augustus. I arrived in Inverness in the evening, and took a brief tour.
August 8, 2001. Fort George.
On Wednesday, I visited the historic British fort, Fort George. The fort was constructed in response to the Jacobite rebellions, and overlooks the Moray Firth, just north of Inverness.
August 9, 2001. The Road to Edinburgh.
I departed from Inverness on Thursday, and spent the day traveling to Edinburgh. Along the way, I took a ride on the Strathspey Steam Railway, and took a tour of Blair Castle. I arrived in Edinburgh in the late afternoon.
August 10, 2001. Edinburgh.
Friday was devoted to sightseeing in Edinburgh. I visited Edinburgh Castle, home of the Scottish crown jewels and the Scottish National War Memorial; and Holyroodhouse Palace, once the home of Mary Queen of Scots. In the evening, I saw a performance of the Edinburgh Military Tattoo.
August 10, 2001. St. Andrews.
Saturday, I visited St. Andrews, and saw the ruins of St. Andrews Cathedral and St. Andrews Castle. |
